Atiq Ahmed was born in 1962 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father was a general police constable by profession. Atiq grew up in a typical middle-class family. He started his career as a property dealer in the 1980s and soon moved into the world of crime. Atiq Ahmed got involved in land grabbing, extortion, coal theft, and other criminal activities. Atiq Ahmed soon gained a reputation as a feared don.

 

In 2002, Atiq Ahmed was arrested for allegedly murdering BSP MLA Raju Pal. He was charged with several other criminal cases including kidnapping and extortion. Despite being in jail, Atiq Ahmed maintained his influence equally and his name was enough to intimidate his enemies.
